EQ VID
Real-Time Audio-Reactive Motion Visualizer & Video Synthesis Studio
An in-browser procedural motion graphics studio that analyzes audio tracks (MP3/WAV/FLAC) in real-time and renders reactive equalizer videos for social reels with zero server GPU expenses.
The Engineering Case Study
The Problem
Transforming music tracks and podcast snippets into animated visualizer videos typically requires either complex After Effects rendering templates or cloud SaaS platforms (like Headliner) that charge $30+/month and force users to wait in render queues for simple audio snippets.
How It Was Engineered
EQ VID runs an in-browser digital signal processing (DSP) pipeline using the Web Audio API's `AnalyserNode`. Incoming audio tracks are decoded into an AudioBuffer, split into frequency bins (sub-bass, mid, highs), and mapped mathematically to canvas procedural animations at 60fps. The canvas stream is piped directly into the browser's `MediaRecorder` API to assemble an encoded MP4/WebM video file on the fly without touching a backend server.
Engineering Hurdles Solved
Eliminating audio/video latency drift during hardware video compression. On mobile devices with fluctuating CPU throttling, canvas render loops can lag behind audio playback, resulting in out-of-sync visualizer pulses. Cynthia built a synchronized timecode clock tied directly to the Web Audio hardware context clock, guaranteeing frame-accurate beat synchronization even under load.
Business & Production Outcome
Zero infrastructure cost to operate at scale while delivering instant video generation with zero queue wait times. Enables creators to produce branded visualizer teasers in under 60 seconds.
